Revo Uninstaller

image

Revo Uninstaller is an uninstaller manager alternative to the Windows programs uninstaller. Why would you need an alternative? Here is why:

Many installers do not clean up after themselves. They leave program folders, configuration / user files and registry keys behind in your system. This only takes up space and slows down your system. A complete uninstall should be “complete” and not leave a trace behind. Revo Uninstaller can scan your system for traces of the software after uninstalling and cleanup the leftovers.

Plus you can sort programs by installation date so you can quickly see what programs have been installed recently.

I have also tried the Pro version that comes with an install monitor to keep track of changes when installing new software. I found the free version a lot more user friendly and thorough enough for me.

I have also tried the new Comodo Programs Manager and even posted it on this blog. However, I take that back and recommend Revo Uninstaller instead. Comodo Programs Manager is less user friendly in my experience because of the following reasons:

Comodo Programs Manager loads too slow. When starting it gathers data on installed programs, drivers and Windows Updates. When I start a programs manager I want to uninstall something. I don’t really care much about how many programs I have, how many Mb’s that is, how many drivers I have and if I have the latest Windows Updates (since I get my updates automatically with the built in Windows 7 update tool). Even when clicking on the programs tab it takes up to a minute to display my installed programs.

The uninstaller in Comodo Programs Manager is buggy. When I uninstall something and it’s done, the program still remains in the list. When reloading it is gone.

The install monitor in Comodo Programs Manager does not seem to work and does not seem to monitor any programs I install. When I uninstall a program I installed (even when I install it by right-clicking on the installer and select ‘monitor using Comodo Programs Manager’), it still says ‘standard uninstall’.

In Comodo Programs Manager it seems that it can only cleanup monitored applications and not unknown applications, thus you end up with a regular uninstall like Windows does. Revo however can do a ‘deep’ uninstall for all applications.

Comodo Programs manager still needs lots of work. Until then, I recommend Revo Uninstaller.

A tip for Windows 7 users: You might have noticed that you cannot pin Revo Uninstaller to your taskbar. This is because it has the word “installer” in the title and Windows 7 restricts pinning “Installers” to the taskbar. To fix this simply create a shortcut to Revo Uninstaller on your desktop and rename the shortcut to “Revo”, then drag and drop it to your taskbar.
